May 2023 – Riccal Dale

Date:  Sunday 14th May 2023
Start: 11.00am
Meet: Pockley – park on the left hand side on the grass verge or in the lay by just before the village
Length of walk: 5 miles
Lunch Venue: The Feather and Beak, Kirkbymoorside
Time: 3.00pm

The next village walk is on Sunday 14th May 2023 and is organised by Pat Thompson with Mary Thomas helping.

The plan is to do a circular walk in Riccal Dale near Helmsley which is beautiful at this time of year with stunning Bluebells and Wild Garlic which should be flowering, and we will be having a coffee break at the annual Bluebells Pop Up Cafe which is to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research and is organised by Robert and Helen Wilson and the committee. The route takes us through Hasty Bank Farm which is a working farm that is completely unspoilt and in its original condition – no modernisation or tarmac roads.

We will be having Sunday lunch at the Feather and Beak Restaurant near Kirkbymoorside, located on a farm at Kirby Mills, Kirkbymoorside YO62 6NS and the menu will follow shortly.

There are some sheep around so dogs would need to be on a lead in those areas.

The distance of the walk is 4.8 miles.

Please bring some CASH for the Cafe.

Christmas 2022 – Helmsley and Duncombe Park

Date:  Sunday 18th December 2022
Start: 1100 (1130 for easier walk)
Meet: Christmas tree in Helmsley market place.
Lunch Venue: The Feathers
Time: 1345

Our Christmas walk has traditionally been a focus for a social event rather than a “yomp” in the countryside with the meal somewhere local to encourage non-walkers to join us.  So, with that in mind we are planning to use Helmsley / Duncombe Park and the Feathers Hotel as the base for our outing.  The plan is for the longer walk to start in Helmsley by the Christmas Tree at 1100 and for an easier walk to kick off at 1130 from the same start point.

Both walks will incorporate well-trodden routes which will allow folk to drop out or short cut if they wish although the longer walk does include a tougher section.  Hopefully we will be met at some point for some festive refreshments!

The menu on offer is attached.  Note the prices quoted are; for one course £18, two courses £23 or three courses £28 and include tea/coffee.  Please advise if you are either walking, dining or both with menu choices by Wednesday 14th.  Would all diners please ensure that they are in the Feathers by 1345.
