February 2020 – Hovingham

Date: Sunday 16th February 2020
Start: 11.00am
Meet: The Worsley Arms car park in Hovingham
Length of walk: just under 4.5 mile
Lunch Venue: The Worsley Arms
Time: 1.45pm

This month’s walk is just under 4.5 mile and will start at The Worsley Arms car park in Hovingham at 11 am (15 minutes earlier than usual).

The route is fairly easy with only a couple of gentle inclines and includes parkland, woodland, fields and good tracks. There are a couple of stiles, however, it may be possible to assist dogs over them. At the time of the recce there were no livestock present in the fields. There will be a short refreshment break as we need to be back at the Worsley Arms ready to eat by 1.45 pm latest.

The menu is attached and I would appreciate you letting me know whether you will be walking and/or eating or not by the 10th February latest.

Kind regards

January 2020 – Felixkirk

This month’s walk starts and finishes at The Carpenter’s Arms at Felixkirk where we will also be having lunch.  There is usually plenty of car parking spaces available.

The walk is 4.7 miles over undulating countryside.  As it is January we expect there to be a number of areas where it is muddy underfoot so waterproof footwear is essential. There are a number of stiles, all in OK condition but not all providing for dogs.  There were also a few fields with sheep/horses so it cannot be described as dog friendly (final decision is at owner’s discretion).  It’s a lovely walk crossing a couple of small streams, which we will check are still crossable nearer the time.

November 2019 – Farndale

This is a gentle circular walk involving no fords. It is approximately 6.6km [4 miles or so]. It crosses fields for the first half and the second half is along the river bank pathway which is mostly gravelled. There will be no daffodils.

Unfortunately there are a number of stiles on the first part that would be very awkward for dogs – they’re sort of stones sticking out of high stone walls [the stiles, not the dogs] – so not an overly dog-friendly walk, sorry.

Meet in the carpark of the Feversham Arms in Church Houses, Farndale. We will also be eating in the pub. As a bonus there are toilets at the halfway mark [not Portaloos], in Low Mill.
